Studio

Encor Studio was founded in 2016 by Swiss audiovisual artists Mirko Eremita,David Houncheringer, Manuel Oberholzer and Valerio Spoletini. Their skillsand sensibilities shape the unique identity of the studio and its projects. Combining technology with lo-fi materials, using self-developed toolsand playing with scales, Encor Studio is on board a journey where beauty takes center stage. Underlining the symbolic value of light and sound, the artworks of the studio merge technology with the physicality of space. Theway hidden information is made palpable, interwoven in our physical and social lives, offers a fresh perspective on an ever-evolving world that, like the properties of light itself, remains mostly a mystery.

Experimenting with kinetic sculptures, architecture, installations and sound visualization, often challenging their limitations, Encor Studio strongly emphasises twisting the audience's perception. Using mirrors, digital artistry, creative coding, data, water and sound waves a.o., experiences are crafted where space and its physical properties take new shapes. By altering the mental states of the audience, the reality is distorted, literally and metaphorically, providing a reflexive look at the human condition itself. This visceral back and forth between reality and concept creates snapshots in time, shaping dense layers that document and grant access to the exploratory journey of Encor Studio..

In its recent development, the studio focuses on a more reductionist approach, subtracting rather than adding elements, allowing the direct environment and lighting to play a larger role. Favouring in situ materials and energetic efficiency serves as a statement against homogeneity.

Subtractive Series

Subtractive Series 2025

This ongoing series by Encor Studio delves into the delicate interplay between presence and absence—where what is unseen often carries more weight than what is visible. Rooted in themes of memory, loss, and perception, the series investigates how the intangible can leave the most profound impression, and how involuntary memory—those unexpected moments that resurface without warning—can reveal the true significance of what once seemed ephemeral.

In this body of work, Encor Studio invites viewers into a space where perception becomes the medium. Physical objects are replaced by the trace they leave behind, the afterimage they impress upon our senses. Playing with light, transparency, and the thresholds between interior and exterior, the installations become meditations on the impermanence of experience. Building on their recent Subtractive Series, this exploration emphasizes minimalism and energy-conscious design, transforming architecture into a responsive canvas. Here, concealment becomes revelation, and the absence of form becomes a powerful presence. The series echoes the spirit of Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, where memory is not recalled but reawakened—subtle, elusive, and deeply resonant.
